1. What is Street Dancing?
Street dance is the style of dance that most people associate with music videos – but street dancing actually evolved outside of dance studios in everyday spaces such as streets, school yards and nightclubs.
Before George Sampson and Diversity brought street dancing to our screens, artists such as Rihanna, Beyonce, Usher were all use street dancing to enhance their music performances as it is a funky, urban and uber cool style of dance that works well with hip hop, urban and r’n’b music.
Street dancing is a great way to stay fit and have fun as it is energetic and set to amazing tunes. It’s also a great way to meet people as it is loved by both guys and girls…
2. Can I join street sessions without any dance training?
Absolutely! Don’t worry if you’ve never danced before, Street Session’s street & hip hop beginners dance course is specifically designed for those of us who have never danced before. Our teachers will take you through the basics at your own pace before moving on to the next step.
In our beginner’s course you will be introduced to basic street dancing moves, learn basic floor moves (moves on the floor!) as well as learn techniques to help you link steps and remember choreography.
Our beginners course is a great introduction to dance, and a great way to learn in a fun environment where others are also new to the steps.
3. Can guys get involved?
Absolutely! There is a reason all the girls love Diversity! Street dancing is for everyone and because it is an urban style of dance it is great for guys. Our classes have a relaxed atmosphere, are loads of fun and you’ll be dancing to current new music. Street dancing is a great way to meet people and learn a new skill at the same time.
4. Will I lose weight?
You may well lose weight, as an energetic dance class burns around as many calories as a gym class. So if you haven’t been doing much exercise lately it’s a great way to get the blood flowing while having fun – and it’s definitely a great way to tone those tummys and thighs!
The best thing about our courses is that you won’t feel like you’ve been ‘exercising’.
5. What should I wear?
Wear clothing that you feel comfortable in and that allows you to move freely. You can wear what you would normally wear to the gym or other fitness classes. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes such as light trainers/sneakers.
6. What should I bring?
It is a good idea to bring a bottle of water and a towel with you to class. You should also wear comfortable clothes that you can move easily in and flat-soled light trainers or shoes that you might wear to the gym.
